According to foreign media reports, starting in April 2019, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia plan to restrict the amount of rubber exported. It is understood that this restriction will last for four months. During this period, Indonesia will limit rubber exports to 98,000 tons; Thailand and Malaysia plan to limit rubber exports to 240,000 tons. The restriction on export volume aims to increase the low rubber price and stimulate the use of rubber in the domestic retreaded tire market. Mr. Azis Pane, chairman of the Indonesian Rubber Industry Council, expressed his approval of the export restriction. He believes that this will promote the absorption of rubber products in the Indonesian market, and rubber farmers will also have the opportunity to restore normal prices. Currently, Indonesia's annual latex production has reached 3.6 million tons, with domestic consumption only 620,000 tons, and the rest is exported abroad for processing into tires and other products. In 2018, the country's rubber exports amounted to US\$6.38 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 17.56% compared to 2017.
